BUCKLEY RECEIVES CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AWARD
The Greater Cedar Valley Chamber of Commerce honored area volunteers and business leaders at its annual awards celebration on Thursday, March 26th at The Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center in downtown Waterloo.
Robert T. Buckley, owner of Kirk Gross Company was named the Cedar Valley business leader for 2008.
Buckley was nominated by Mike Chapman, executive director of the Dan Gable International Wrestling Institute and Museum. Chapman said Buckley, a member of the museum board, made the museum’s move to Waterloo two years ago possible. Buckley volunteered his time to raise money for the move. “Communities just need Bob Buckley’s,” Chapman said. “They need people who are unselfish and just step up and give their time.” Buckley also helped the museum recover from the flood last year, Chapman added. “I thought we were done for, I really did” Chapman said. “Bob refused to buckle.”
“It was a privilege to lead that effort,” Buckley said. “I wasn’t expecting to do it twice.”
Dan Gable, Iowa wrestling legend and Olympic gold medalist, presented the award.
Buckley has donated his time to dozens of organizations since returning to Waterloo in 1979. He is also on the Allen Hospital Board and assisted the Allen Foundation with the $15 million “Promises to Keep” fundraising effort. The campaign raised money toward the hospital’s $47 million Pauline Barrett Pavilion, which houses the new Allen Emergency Department and Allen Heart and Vascular Center.
“Bob is a very energetic guy,” said Jim Waterbury, Allen spokesman. “Anybody who knows him knows he puts his all into whatever he does.” His experience at Kirk Gross Company helped with developing the three floors and 75,000 square feet of space. “He’s not only an excellent fundraiser but he knows how buildings go together,” Waterbury said.
05/26/08 Memorial Day - Parkersburg, Iowa
Kirk Gross Team is one of the First Responders in the Parkersburg Tornado’s
The Kirk Gross Company is fully committed to our customers, before, during and after the project. When the devastating F5 tornado in Parkersburg directly affected one of our customers, we dropped everything on Memorial Day to rush to their aid. Armed with shovels, gloves and customer loyalty, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work.
We worked through the day, cleaning up glass and debris, to ensure the bank was ready to open the doors to the citizens of Parkersburg as soon as possible. On Tuesday morning, the bank President called the FDIC to inform them that they were open for business. We built the bank to our high standards, and it withstood an F5 tornado. We were on the scene to bring our customer back online, and they were operational two days after the devastating tornado.
Our customer dedication, over 70 years experience in the design build field, and ability to construct buildings that can withstand an F5 tornado, make the Kirk Gross team an obvious choice for your next construction project.
